Explore the world of chemistry

Scientific

When the chemistry is right, we can make things happen at LANXESS: Let cars run more quietly, filter salt water cautiously, protect people against malaria and a whole lot more. How does this work? With the help of committed young scientists, who, together with us, research, analyse and develop as well as manufacture, our products. So we give talented school leavers the opportunity to start their careers at LANXESS with a scientific vocational training program.

Chemical Technician

Are the pressure, temperature and filling levels correct in the production facility? Chemical technicians ensure that everything runs smoothly in the chemical manufacturing process – precise measurements and controls are just as much part of their jobs as production controlling using modern technologies. Security is the top priority during the manufacture of LANXESS products in highly technical production facilities. So our chemical technicians are characterised not only by their expertise, but also by a high degree of responsibility and reliability.

Practical tasks

  • Monitor, check and maintain equipment
  • Regulate and monitor chemical production processes using up-to-date computer technology
  • Check measurements such as pressure, filling levels, temperature and volumes
  • Apply technical process methods such as filtering, distilling, drying, heating, cooling
  • Fill and empty boilers and vessels with chemicals
  • Bottle and package chemical products
  • Connect and seal pipes and pipelines

    Prerequisites

    • Good Certificate of Secondary Education, grade 10 (Hauptschulabschluss Klasse 10)
    • Keen interest in science
    • Very good grades in physics and chemistry
    • Excellent language skills, both oral and written in German
    • Understanding of technical, physical concepts
    • Manual dexterity
    • Reliability and team skills
    • Very high level of responsibility

    Training

    3.5 years of training:

    • Final examination in 2 areas
    • Theoretical and practical examinations
    • Apprenticeship payment in line with the pay scale for the chemicals industry in North Rhine-Westphalia

    Further training opportunities

    • State certified technician (specialising in industrial engineering or chemical engineering)
    • Production Foreman, specialising in chemistry (Industriemeister/-in)
    • Bachelor of Engineering

    Chemical Laboratory Assistant

The chemical laboratory assistants at LANXESS create their very own worlds: Under ideal laboratory conditions they separate chemical composites, conduct their own physical experiments and control the quality of the results. Metrological tasks are par for the course: They operate scales of varying sensitivity and work both with simple mechanical devices as well as with complex technical equipment.

    Practical tasks

    • Plan test procedures and build up the equipment
    • Produce organic and inorganic compounds, analyse materials in terms of their composition and structure
    • Cleanse, identify and characterise materials, as well as manufacture and examine materials
    • Separate and cleans composites, e.g. by filtering, crystallizing, extracting
    • Develop and optimize processes and regulations for analysing and manufacturing
    • Apply synthesis techniques and environment-related work techniques

    Prerequisites

    • Very good school leaving certificate, vocational extension certificate (Fachoberschulreife)
    • Good grades in chemistry
    • Excellent language skills, both oral and written in German
    • Keen interest in science
    • Understanding of technical, physical concepts
    • Reliability and team skills
